Happy St. Patrick’s Day
It is finally here. The day we have been discussing for the last week and will continue to talk about and sing about until at least the end of the week. It is St Patrick’s Day
So let’s have a party. It does not have to be fancy. As with all the parties I put on at the nursing home, this is going to be a feel good party. Everybody will feel good about himself and others when he leaves. Why?, you ask.
The answer is because you are going to have a lot of fun. Most importantly, you are going to say something wondeful about each and every person in attendence. More about that later.
Start by greeting everyone as they come in. Try to arrange the seating so folks of similar cognitive levels and interests sit together. Not always possible, but try your best.
Be a cheerleader. Give the group a hardy welcome. Say: We are all going to have fun today. For just a little while we are all going to be Irish and have the luck of the Irish Put your trouble away and keep a smile on your face for the rest of the day. Say this like you mean it
Start out by singing, Hail Hail the Gang is All Here
Then ask for everyone’s pateince while you talk about some of the great things people in the gang have done or how great they are or why they have the luck of the Irish. You get the idea. Then say some wonderful things about some of the members of the group.
