The importance of celebrating special days
If you are a loved one, caregiver or, healthcare professional resposible for the activities of person(s) who have Alzheimer’s disease, a related dementa, and/or others residing in a long term care facility, then you should know how important celebrating special days is.
Interaction with these folks can be challenging, so if you have something upbeat and fun to share with them, the time you spend together will be much more enjoyable for all concerned.
Rercently I talked about the Super Bowl and Ground Hogs Day However everyday has something to celebrate. Click here for a list of things to celebrate in February.
Thursday is Hank Aaron’s birthday. “What could you do for that?”, you ask.
First of all you could have a birthday party for him. Everyone loves a party and birthday cake.
However, even before that you could plan the party, making placemats, favors, or whatever. You can go to the library, the local bookstore or online to gather information about this great sports hero.
You can talk about baseball, other sports legends, or spring and summer.
You can sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” or “Happy Birthday”
I am sure if you put your mind to it, you will think of many ideas for this and other special days as well.
I will, from time to time, discuss ideas on ways to celebrate special days
