Is everyone with dementia different?

Thank you for your great comments and questions about dementia

First I would like to give a short answer to “Is everyone’s dementia different?”

The answer is yes.

While folks with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias have short term memory problems, other characteristics about each person’s disease can be vastly different. The progression of the disease can be different as well.

This is why it is so hard to compare one person to another. This is also why it is so hard to find a cure.

It depends on what part of the brain is affected. For most the hippocampus is the first thing to go.

I will discuss this after the new year when all the holidays are over.

By Susan Berg author of Adorable Photographs of Our Baby-Meaningful Mind Stimulating Activities and More for the Memory Challenged, Their Loved Ones and Involved Professionals a book for those with dementia and an excellent resource for caregivers and healthcare professionals.
